You can run ASP on your own PC without an external server. To do that, you must install Microsoft's Personal Web Server (PWS) or Internet Information Server (IIS) on your PC. While you can run a web server on Windows NT, 95, and 98, it is recommended that you run PDShop on Windows 2000, XP, or Vista.
Windows 2000 Professional (IIS): To install IIS follow the instructions provided by Microsoft (see Related Links below). Microsoft also provides a patch that fixes several security problems, be sure to install all recommended fixes.
Windows XP Professional (IIS): IIS 5 comes with Windows XP Professional, and is installed like other Windows components. Open the "Start" menu, select "Settings", from the "Control Panel". Next, open "Add/Remove Programs," and click on "Add/Remove Windows Components". Next, select "Internet Information Services". Then, click on "Details" and check "World Wide Web Service". Once installation is completed, visit Microsoft's website for all the critical bug fixes and updates.
Windows XP Home Edition (N/A) : According to Microsoft, IIS and PWS is not supported on Windows XP Home.
Windows 95 (PWS) Microsoft provides Personal Web Server (PWS) for Windows 95.
Windows 98 (PWS): PWS (Personal Web Server) comes with Windows 98. Microsoft provides installation instructions (see Related Links below).
Windows ME: Microsoft does not support IIS or PWS on Windows ME.
Windows NT Workstation (PWS or IIS): Microsoft provides Peer Web Services (PWS) for Windows NT. Windows NT can also run IIS 4.0.
